Separation of advertising and editorial

Advertising pays for the site. It does not shape it.

  • Advertisers have no input into what we write or which topics we cover.
  • Advertisers do not see content before publication and cannot request changes.
  • No advertiser can purchase editorial coverage, favourable mention, or placement within an article.
  • Advertising performance does not influence which pages we create.
  • We do not write content designed to attract particular advertisers.

If an advertiser ever asked us to change or soften content, we would refuse and end the relationship.

Advertising we refuse

  • Online pharmacies selling prescription medicines without a prescription. Non-negotiable.
  • Products making unsubstantiated health claims, including cures, miracle treatments, and detox products.
  • Advertising designed to look like editorial content.
  • Anything targeting a reader's health condition in a manipulative way.
  • Products marketed as alternatives to prescribed treatment.
  • Advertising that would appear alongside emergency or crisis content. Pages covering overdose, crisis resources, or emergency symptoms carry no advertising.

That last point is deliberate. Someone reading about what to do in an emergency should not be shown an advertisement, and no revenue justifies otherwise.

How advertising is presented

Advertising is visually distinct from editorial content and clearly labelled. We do not use formats designed to blur that boundary.

Some advertising is served programmatically, meaning specific advertisements are selected by an ad network rather than chosen by us. We set category restrictions, but we cannot pre-approve every individual advertisement. If you see something on this site that appears to breach this policy, please report it through our contact page — that feedback genuinely helps us tighten the filters.

Advertising is not endorsement

An advertisement on this site is not a recommendation. We do not vet advertised products for quality, effectiveness or suitability, and their presence says nothing about whether anything is appropriate for you.

We do not accept payment to feature or favour any medicine, treatment or product, and we are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or funded by any pharmaceutical manufacturer.

If we ever introduce affiliate links or sponsored content, we will disclose them clearly at the point they appear and update this page. We will not introduce them retroactively into existing content.

Editorial independence from advertisers

Sponsored placements, if enabled, are labeled as advertisements. Advertisers do not choose clinical conclusions, source hierarchies, or medical-review outcomes. Ads are kept out of urgent safety notices and do not sit between a heading and its immediate safety answer. Pharmaceutical sponsors cannot pay to alter comparison tables or “winner” framing because this site does not declare winners.

If an advertising inquiry conflicts with these rules, Hydroxyzine.org will decline the placement. Readers can report ads that look like medical content through the contact form.
