Child-resistant packaging is designed to slow down a young child while remaining openable by most adults. It reduces risk but does not eliminate it, since determined children can and do open these containers given time.

Storing medicines up, away, and out of sight remains the primary protection, and requesting child-resistant caps is possible even when a pharmacy defaults to easy-open ones.
