Chronic urticaria means hives that recur on most days for six weeks or more. In a large share of cases no external trigger is found, and the condition is thought to involve the immune system acting on the skin's mast cells.
Because it persists, chronic urticaria is usually managed as an ongoing condition with a clinician rather than treated episode by episode.
