The expiration date is the last date through which the manufacturer guarantees the product meets its specifications when stored as directed. It is not a prediction of the moment a medicine becomes harmful, but beyond it, potency and stability are no longer assured.
Pharmacy-dispensed containers also carry a beyond-use date, which may be earlier than the manufacturer's expiry.
