A generic drug contains the same active ingredient, in the same strength and dosage form, as an approved reference product, and must demonstrate bioequivalence before the FDA approves it.
Generics may differ in colour, shape, markings, and inactive ingredients. Pharmacies commonly switch between approved manufacturers based on supply, which is why a refill can look different from the previous one.
